FABRIC CARE BY THE EXPERTS.

Drapes could be damages by light, a natural source that could not be controlled. However, we could reduce the rate of deterioration. Tears on drapes will shop up after cleaning due to weakened yarns. They appear to be horizontal shredding that runs in straight vertical lines along the more exposed edges of sunlight on a continual basis is the main cause along with the other existing compound absorbed in the drapes like dye type, print design or fabric finish. This accelerates sun damage to drapes.

Prevention could occur when given the expected life cycle and repeated suggested care procedures. Generally, these curtains could last for 3-4 years with proper suggested care. In normal circumstances of use, drapes are used to block out sunlight, thus exposed to sun. Light rays will slowly weaken and degrade the fabric. Prevention as advise, by using a blackout lining, shades or blins to lessen the exposure and direct contact with sunlight.

Shrinkage of drapes. A change in original dimension, seam distortion or an uneven hemline would occur. most drapes and curtain contained stretched fabric from the weaving process: hence relaxation shrinkage can occur from the normal agitation or heat necessary during cleaning and drying. It could not be prevented.

Watermarks on drapes. Previously unseen stains may show up on fabric. With the accumulating smoke, gas fumes and other atmosheric impurities, along with moisture such as inclement weather or windowpane condenate can distrubs the fabric, causing streaks or water rings when in contact with water.

Drapery coatings could be found in 100% blackout (total cover) materials. The seperate lining could be soften or became brittle after dry cleaning or washing formulas, and then the coating may fall off and reduce its function ability as a blackout curtain.

Curtain makers are advice to keep more excess fabric in their seams, so that when shrinkage occurs the height of the curtans could still be altered.
